A fine, large English silver pair cased repoussé verge pocket watch, circa 1751-1752.
Full plate fire gilt verge movement, finely pierced and engraved balance cock and footplate, silver regulator disc, fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel set-up between the plates. Fine silver champlevé dial with Roman hours, Arabic five minutes, and blued steel hands. Polished silver cases. Signed on dial RICH / LONDON, and signed on movement: J Rich / LONDON.

John Rich was an 18th-century English watchmaker known for his precision timepieces. He was born in London in 1692 and became a member of the Clockmakers’ Company in 1714. He was appointed as one of the King’s watchmakers in 1719 and became one of the most renowned watchmakers of his time.
Rich was known for his high-quality pocket watches, which were highly accurate and often featured complicated movements. He was also an innovator credited with developing lever escapement, a key component in the modern watch movement that improves accuracy.
Collectors and connoisseurs highly sought after rich’s watches, and many of his timepieces still exist today. He died in 1766, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest watchmakers of his time.
