Silver oval pre balance spring pendant watch

A very fine and exceptionally rare Swiss, silver, oval, pre balance spring pendant watch by Denis Bordier, Genève. Made for the Russian market circa 1640. An Oval type fully chased with flowers and foliage, the cover decorated with a cherub leaning on a shield, back centered with a small landscape. Chased lower finial and loose ring pendant. Gilt brass dial with chapter ring engraved and radial Roman numerals and half hour divisions, applied on the hinged silverplate located by four lugs and entirely engraved with scrolling foliage. Gilt brass single tulip hand.

Oval, hinged, gilt brass movement, fusee with gut, the backplate engraved with flowers and foliage, elaborate pierced and engraved gilt brass pillars, short three wheel train, verge escapement, plain steel two arm foliot without spring, irregular gilt brass pierced and florally engraved balance cock secured by a pin, ratchet wheel set up with matching decoration. Movement signed.
