Pocket watch with visible mock pendulum

A rare verge watch with visible mock pendulum, made by Denis Clapot in London, England, circa 1710. Full plate fire gilt verge movement, the movement plate is finely engraved and in the centre is the watchmaker’s signature, surrounded by acanthus leaves and an angel’s head, Egyptian pillars with a gallery.
Polished inner and outer case, the back of the inner case has a shuttered winding aperture.
Silver champlevé dial, partially gold plated, opening for dummy pendulum, segment shaped opening for regulation scale. a crescent shaped cut out for the mock pendulum. Dial and movement signed.

Denis Clapot was born in France and fled to London after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, where he was naturalized in 1709.
This watch was part of the exhibition of the State Museum of Technology and Work in Mannheim in cooperation with the German Society for Chronometry eV, from October 26, 2002 – March 30, 2003 and is described in the catalog “All the Time in the World: Clocks and Other Contemporary Witnesses”.
