An early English verge pocket watch in leather covered brass case, made by the one of the most important London watchmakers of the time, Henry Jones, circa 1700.
Leather covered brass case. Early English verge movement, very decorated, bridge with birds, main plate signed, tulips pillars. White enamel dial with Roman hours, Arabic minutes and (replaced), gilt hands.

Important London watchmaker of the 17th century. Baillie calls Henry Jones “VERY FAMOUS MAKER”. It is not clear whether it is Henry James I 1654-1695 or his son Henry II, who became free of the Clockmakers Company in 1698.
