A very fine, rare gold enamel “à toc et à tact” quarter repeating pocket watch with the allegory of “Time liberating Truth by striking down Untruth and Slander”. Gold enamel case, circa 1763, the back enamel panel painted in polychrome colours with an allegory of Truth being liberated by Kronos who strikes down Untruth and Slander, engraved bezels with Greek fret pattern, two diamond push pieces, case maker punch mark “JGA”, French charge mark crossed laurel wreaths for 1762/1768: Jean Jaques Prevost, guild punch mark “Z” from 1763, large lateral hinge. Dial is enamel, radial Roman hours, Louis XVI hands. Full plate movement, frosted, gilt, signed, chain/ fusee, blued screws, moulded movement pillars, three-arm brass balance, cylinder escapement, engraved, pierced balance bridge, large silver regulator disc.
