A French gold and porcelain open faced verge pocket watch, circa 1760.
The case back with a polychrome painted gallant scene, foliage engraved band and bow. White enamel dial with Roman hours and Arabic five minute numerals.
Fire gilt full plate movement, pierced and engraved cock, verge escapement, fusee and chain, spring balance, regulator disc.

The watches mounted on porcelain housing are scarce at this time, but to this day there still remain a few examples, like this one is reminiscent of the brave scenes in the paintings or drawings by Watteau.

Jean Antoine Watteau
better known as Antoine Watteau, was born in Valencijn on October 10, 1684, and died in Nogent-sur-Marne on July 18, 1721. He was a French painter of the Rococo period. Watteau’s Bplace of birth was conquered by the French in 1678.
