Gold calendar watch
–
An unusual double sided pocket watch with enamel painting and a rare calendar, circa 1760. The very fine open faced case of this watch, crafted from 18 carat gold, has a pink and green gold relief edge and is glazed on both sides. The face shows a polychrome enamel scene, an off center white enamel dial at 12 o’clock with Roman hours, outer minute divisions, outermost Arabic five minute numerals, and gold beetle & poker hands, a further regulating scale below. The back features a patented calendar with an outer black chapter for the days of the week, inner red Arabic numerals for the date and steel hands. The movement is fitted with a verge escapement.
