Gold cylinder pendant watch

A very fine and rare, extra thin Swiss, 18 Carat gold pendant watch, circa 1820. Accompanied by the original chain and male key. A coin-edge band, the back engraved with a mounted officer flanked by military trophies within an engine-turned surround. White enamel dial with radial Roman numerals and outer minute divisions. Gold Breguet hands A Bagnolet movement, width 2.38 mm, including the dial, chased and engraved with foliate scrolls, eight jewels, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance, index regulator. Movement signed. Property of an Italian Gentleman.

In the Bagnolet calibre, the movement is inverted and the train reversed. The idea was to make a very thin watch by reducing the thickness of the bridges and the dial and eliminate the cuvette. Philippe Samuel Meylan is credited with the invention of the Bagnolet calibre.
