Important, large French open faced chronometer in manner of Louis Berthoud, circa 1830. Engine turned silver case with gold hinges, case punched. Cuvette inscribed: Construit a Paris en 1830 par Julien Huguenin. Pivoted spring detent chronometer movement with extra-large chronometer balance and helical hairspring, constructed in manner of Louis Berthoud, enhanced by Huguenin. White enamel dial with Roman numerals and blued Breguet steel hands.

This watch impresses with its outstanding, almost like-new condition. It was part of the famous collection of Gerd Ahrens. Ahrens comments on this watch: “The pivoted spring detent escapement is a further development of that of Louis Berthoud”. Illustrated in: ‘Deck and pocket chronometer’ by Hans von Bertele.
