A very fine and rare French, pre-balance spring, single-hand pendant watch with alarm by Rousseau, A Gien France. Made circa 1630. Band pierced and engraved with flowers and foliage, polished back and front cover. Gilt metal dial with radial Roman numerals and half-hour divisions, revolving alarm disc in the centre with an engraved petal rosette and steel fleur-de-lis hour pointer. Steel alarmsetting hand. Hinged, frosted gilt full plate movement, baluster pillars, fusee and gut, verge escapement, circular steel foliot, small cock, ratchet wheel mainspring set-up with finely pierced and engraved click, alarm mechanism is driven from fixed barrel pierced and engraved with floral motifs, steel train and double-ended hammer. Movement signed.
