Rock crystal and cross shaped brass watch

A very rare French rock crystal and cross-shaped brass watch, circa 1630, hinged gilt brass full plate verge movement, fusee and gut line for the going train, elongated cock asymmetrically pierced and engraved, pillars, the back finely engraved. Silvered dial, Roman numerals, engraved view of a village with a fisherman. Two body case consisting of gilt brass mounted rock crystal hinged at the top, movement signed.

The back of the movement, visible around the dial, is decorated with biblical scenes:
– top: the cock which crowed in the morning after Peter denied three times that he knew Jesus.
– left: the instruments of the Passion.
