Gold, enamel, and pearl set mandolin form watch
–
A French, exceptionally finely crafted gold and enamel mandolin form watch with oriental pearls, from the 19th century. This gold and enamel mandolin form case features a stunning, multi-coloured design adorned with half-oriental pearls. The front view showcases the intricate balance wheel, while the case is cleverly designed to open up. The hidden enamel dial is in excellent condition, preserving its beauty. The movement is a full plate, keywind, and verge escapement, and although signed by an imitator, it bears a striking resemblance to Breguet’s signature style.

The back of the case bears three distinctive marks that signify its origin and quality. The first mark is an octagon with the letter A inside, indicating control by Vienna source in 1866. The second mark is a six-sided enclosure with the letter A, an animal’s head, and the number 4, which represents small work in gold of the 4th standard used in Austria-Hungary from May 26, 1866, to April 22, 1922. Lastly, there is a rectangle with the letters JW, which is most likely the case maker’s mark.
