Gold open faced keywind repeating verge watch
–
A fine and rare French 18 carat yellow gold open faced quarter repeating pocket watch made by L’Epine in Paris, circa 1800. It has a mechanical key winding movement with a verge escapement and a pierced, engraved balance cock centred with a red ruby cap stone. The integrated quarter repeating mechanism strikes the hours and quarters. It is signed L’Epine à Paris and numbered 9068 on the inner cover. The white enamel dial shows black Arabic numerals for the hours, a winding aperture at 2 o’clock, an outer minute track, and ornate rose gold Breguet style hands. The timepiece is housed in an 18 carat yellow gold open faced case with a reeded engine turned bezel and band, a crown set with a blue gemstone cabochon, a repeating push piece activation system, and a suspension bow. It comes with a gold winding key.
