Gold open faced repeating verge watch
–
A French 18 carat yellow gold open faced quarter repeating pocket watch made by Vierling in Strasbourg, early 19th century. This watch has a key wound mechanical movement with a chased and pierced cock, three arm spiral balance, verge escapement, and advance/delay adjusting disc. The quarter repeating striking mechanism is triggered by the pendant and operates a two hammer gong chime. The white enamel dial shows stylised Breguet style numerals for the hours, a minute track, blued steel Breguet style hands, and is signed Vierling. The round 18 carat yellow gold case has a guilloché back and is numbered inside. The metal cuvette has an aperture for the winding square and is signed Vierling à Strasbourg.
