Gold cylinder pendant watch

A very fine and thin 18k gold Swiss lady’s pendant watch, engraved in taille douce, circa 1844. Florally chased bezels, pendant and bow, coin-edge band, the back engraved in taille douce with a view of Castel Sant Angelo, Rome, the back interior with engraved dedication and hinged gold cuvette. White, enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, secured by two screws from the front. Gold Breguet hands. A frosted gilt movement, bar calibre, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance, flat blued steel balance spring, index regulator. Dial, case and movement signed.

This is a typical example of a watch made for the Italian market, where Vacheron & Constantin were well established. Another similar watch, made in 1837, is engraved with a view of St. Peter’s Square, Rome. The Quarter Millennium of Vacheron Constantin, April 3, 2005.
