Fine, rare and thin Swiss elegant 18 Carat yellow gold open faced keyless lever dress watch with gold chain, circa 1920. Retailed by Cartier.
The band and the bow are set with onyx cabochons, the case back and front are black enamel, the back is engraved Souvenir Amical Aristide Briand. Cream coloured enamel dial with black painted Roman hours, an outer minute track and blued steel Breguet-style hands. A manual mechanical movement. The case and dial are signed Cartier, the movement is signed European Watch and Clock Co. Accompanied by the original fitted presentation box.

Aristide Pierre Henri Briand was born on March 28th, 1862 and died on March 7th, 1932. He was a lawyer and politician who was 11 times President of the Council and 26 times a minister under the Third Republic. He played an essential role in international relations after the First World War. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1926. Mr Briand gave this watch to his doctor, the great-grandfather of the current owner.
