Pocket watch with alarm and self-strike
–
An early single handed pocket watch with alarm and self strike, made by Pierre Noury in Lyon, France, circa 1660. This watch features a silver pair case, with both cases pierced and adorned with exceptionally intricate decorations of birds, shells, rocailles and flowers, along with a bell. The champlevé silver dial has a chapter ring with Roman hour numerals, half hour markers, an inner ring with Arabic numerals for the alarm and a single hand. The movement is fitted with a very early verge escapement without a hairspring, an unusual complication combination of an hour strike and alarm on a bell and three barrels.
The movement is signed.
