Gold early movement in a later case
–
An exceptionally early quality 1A movement, dating to 1872, made by A. Lange in Glasshütte, Dresden, Germany, encased in circa 1930. The later, numbered case was crafted from gold and is punched with the Glashütte Hallmark. The white enamel dial displays Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and steel hands. The numbered gilt precision movement is fitted with an early and highly refined A. Lange lever escapement, screwed gold chatons, a gold lever, gold escape wheel and diamond endstone.
The case and movement share matching numbers, and both the dial and movement are signed.

The item presented here is an early Adolph Lange pocket watch of exceptional quality, dating from the Dresden period of production. It likely originally had a gold case, which may have been sold during wartime. The rare movement was subsequently fitted with a new case in Glashütte around 1930, at which time the hands, then in a modern style, were also replaced.
