Johann Georg Mayr (circa 1640-1684)
From 1662 Johann Hans Georg Mayr was clockmaker to the court in Munich. During his short life he created mainly table clocks with astronomical indication such as horizontal table clocks and astronomical tableclocks with musical mechanisms. Some of his clocks can be seen in the Bavarian national museum in Munich, in the “Kunsthistorisches Museum” in Vienna and in the “Mathematisch-Physikalischer Salon” in Dresden.
Other clocks by Johann Georg Mayr are described and illustrated in: Juergen Abeler “Meister der Uhrmacherkunst” (masters of watchmaking), 2nd edition, Wuppertal 2010, p. 375. F.J.
