A very fine, German, ship’s chronometer with lever escapement, 35-hour power reserve, seconds contact device and original key No. 1240, circa 1940.
Mahogany box with applied signature shield, applied handles, lid and facetted glass, brass gimbals and bowl No. 1240, reeded adjusting nut for external hand setting and two-body. Silvered, signed and numbered dial with radial Roman numerals, large auxiliary seconds, 35-hour power reserve indicator and gilt spade hands. Brass movement, frosted and gilt, with solid circular movement pillars, barrel, polished screws, hand setting device, lever escapement, “Griesbach”-chronometer balance with four weights and two screws, blued helical balance spring, beryllium-bronze lever and escape wheel, chatoned diamond endstone on balance and electromechanical contact device.
