Deck chronometer in original box

A museum quality half seconds deck chronometer, made by A. Lange & Söhne in Glashütte near Dresden, Germany, circa 1913. The open faced numbered case is crafted from silver, is engine turned on the back, is marked “K.u.K. Kriegsmarine” and comes in the original box. The silvered dial has black Roman hour numerals, a subsidiary half seconds indicating dial with black Arabic numerals and blued steel hands at six o’clock. The very fine chronometer movement with Glashütte pivoted detent chronometer escapement in quality 1A, has a helical hairspring and a diamond end stone.
Box, dial case and movement have matching numbers and dial and movement are signed.

The watch comes with a current extract from the archives of Glashütte.

Especially rare is the still existing original box, matching number with the watch. Only a few of these existing half seconds deck chronometers are in this condition with the accompanying original box. Lange & Söhne delivered these chronometers to the Imperial and Royal Hydrographic Office in Pola in 1913. The sister watches (both without box) 64875 and 64874 were sold at auctions in respectively 2018 and 2011 for circa € 45.000€ and € 35.000.
