Metal verge pendant watch
–
A rare German Renaissance pendant watch with an additional sundial, circa 1580. Early movement with verge escapement and stack freed, the main plate is monogrammed I.V.K. for Jacob van Kress in Augsburg, on the opposite side a sundial with silver chapter ring. Silver dial with blue enamelled Roman numerals and a gilt hand. A gilt lid with silver Renaissance decoration, the mid section formerly probably was covered with leather or shagreen, hinged on both sides under the lid.

Another Renaissance watch with the same signature is shown in ‘Von der Halsuhr zum Tourbillon’ by Reinhard Meis. This watch matches many details of the movement and the dial with the present piece. It is assumed that this watch is mostly in its original condition.
