Important watch with early triple calendar
–
An important astronomical pocket- and coach watch, originally made by Pierre Caillatte in Heidelberg, Germany circa 1640 and modernised around 1700. The open faced plain case of this watch was crafted from silver and the very unusual and magnificent dial has an early triple calendar with indication of the month at 3 o’clock, the moon phase at 9 o’clock and day of the month at 12 o’clock and decentralised time display at 6 o’clock with a single hand. The fire gilt movement has a verge escapement and is engraved.
The movement is signed.

Caillatte
This exceptionally large astronomical pocket watch was made by Pierre Caillatte from Heidelberg. The watchmaking family first worked in Geneva in the 17th century, later also in Copenhagen. Around 1700, this watch was modernised, see movement decoration, conversion from gut string to chain and fitting with a hairspring. The optical condition of this rarity is fantastic, the large size exceptionally rare.
