–
A pair cased single-handed verge pocket watch with alarm, probably of southern German origin, circa 1710.
This watch has two cases: a silver outer case – coated with leather, with stud decoration, sound holes and large lateral hinge; and a silver inner case – open work border with very fine engravings, decorated with foliage, birds and medallions with views of towns and a rear bell. The dial is silver and Champlevé, with inlaid radial Roman hours, central rotating alarm disc and blued hands. And the movement is a fine full plate movement, signed, keywind, firegilt, with applied florally engraved ornaments, chain/fusee, additional florally engraved barrel for alarm, one hammer, Egyptian movement pillars, three-arm steel balance and an engraved and florally pierced silver balance cock.
