An important, exquisitely made Danish 18K rose gold pocket Chronometer with Earnshaw-type spring detent Chronometer escapement, circa 1821. The outer case is a polished, massive case in 18K gold with punch-marked KPF/FR for the case maker L. Steinmetz, the inner case is also polished, 18K gold with punch-marked KPF/FR. White enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, large subsidiary seconds and blued steel Breguet hands.

A frosted gilt full plate movement with cylindrical pillars secured by screws, the back plate recessed for the barrel secured by a bridge, the fusee with chain and Harrison’s maintaining power, gold train, a winding square surrounded by a dust pipe fixed on the top plate. Earnshaw spring detent escapement. Two arms compensated balance with four screws for temperature adjustment, two wedge-shaped weights with locking screws on the underside and two-timing screws, gold helical balance spring. Dial, case and movement signed.
