An impressive verge watch with three cases, made by Joseph Niggl in Salzburg, Austria, circa 1780. This open faced watch has three cases of which the two inner ones are crafted from silver and the outer case is crafted from silver and brass and has a tortoise shell. The inner case is engraved with the master’s mark IS and a crown. The white enamel dial has Roman hour numerals and gold plated hands. The extremely unusual full plate movement has a verge escapement, a silver decoration, a silver dust protection ring and a balance bridge in the shape of the Austrian double headed eagle.
