Large double-cased verge watch
–
An impressive, large double open faced case verge watch with repetition, made by Charles Molyns in London, England, circa 1700 – 1812. The watch features a silver, high-quality open faced case that is adorned with intricate floral designs and boasts fine sound openings. The double case is marked with London Hallmarks from 1812 and the watch paper is still intact. The case was specifically made in 1812 to house the early spindle movement that dates back to around 1700, which fits perfectly in the movement holder that is still in place. The white enamel dial, Roman numerals for the hours and the hands are also original to the watch, although they may have been modernized around 1812. The movement has a very early English verge escapement with a quarter repeater, a vase pillar and a diamond endstone
The movement is signed.
