An English 18 carat gold, hunting cased, key wound presentation pocket watch with Guillaume balance and helical hairspring, circa 1880. 3/4 Plate gilt finished lever movement, Guillaume balance, blued steel helical hairspring, diamond endstone. Inscribed gold cuvette reading Presented by the British Government to M. Peyrouton de Ladebat, Commander of the French Sloop of War, Cher, in Acknowledgement of His Valuable Services to the British Ship “Cadzow Forest” of Glasgow When Stranded at Rodriques Island, 24th April 1880. White enamel dial with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds. Engine turned case, hinged back. Case stamped ‘HW’, possibly for Henry Webb, and with a London date letter for 1880. The watchmaker signs the dial and movement.
