A fine English 18 carat gold open faced pair cased repoussé verge watch with date and chain, circa 1700 and 1766. Gilt finished verge movement, chain fusée, finely pierced and engraved scroll balance cock and foot. Chased gilt dial with Roman numerals, fleur-de-lys half-hour divisions, outer Arabic five minute divisions, steel beetle and poker hands, window for date. Later plain inner case, turning pendant, outer chased and engraved repoussé case with a classical scene in high relief, inner case stamped with casemaker’s initials ‘IH’ and stamped with London date letter for 1766, dial and movement signed.
