Fine silver open faced centre seconds deck watch by S. Alexander

A fine English silver open faced centre seconds lever deck watch and box, hallmarked London 1916. Gilt 3/4 plate keyless movement engraved with the broad ministry arrow. Plain cock with diamond endstone, polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring, club foot lever escapement, screwed in jewelling, escape and lever pivots with endstones. Signed and numbered white enamel dial with centre seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands.  Substantial plain case maker’s mark ‘WB’ in a rectangle and  number corresponding to that on the movement, constructed without a front bezel or cuvette, gilt winding button. Mahogany three tier deck box, the watch secured in a brass drum by locking the middle tier. Signed and numbered circular bone plaque marked with the broad ministry arrow on the top lid.
