Gold and silver full hunter watch by Breguet
–
A rare and slim French gold and silver hunting cased ruby cylinder watch with subsidiary hour and minute dials, circa 1829. This timepiece features a 15″ gilded movement with a ruby cylinder escapement, a three arm gold balance, and parachute suspension. The white enamel dial includes two subsidiary dials for hours and minutes and is adorned with gold moon hands. The minute hand has an offset setting square at its base, and there is a sector at the bottom for a regulation indication with a regulator hand equipped with a setting square at its base. The dial is signed Breguet.

The gold case is crafted by Tavernier, showcasing engine turned covers and a small cartouche on the front featuring a goat head crest. The case also has a silver engine turned band and a bayonet fit design that allows it to turn and reveal the winding aperture with a female square. Additionally, it is equipped with a gold pendant and bow, as well as a gold milled hinged and glazed dial bezel. Inside, both the back and front covers are numbered B 4582, and they bear the Paris control marks for 1819-1838, with MA B marked beneath a triangle within a lozenge-shaped cartouche. The case back is further numbered T4130. The watch includes a key on a short gold chain, featuring a double ended ratchet design for winding and setting the time. It comes with a Breguet certificate dated January 27, 2020.

This thin watch, referred to as montre simple très plate, was sold to Monsieur Paschkoff on May 23, 1829, for 2,200 francs.

The movement is operational but slightly tarnished and dirty, likely needing a service. The dial has light scratches and minor chipping around the minute hand aperture. The case shows light scuffs and scratches, with some nicks around the band and bezel edges, though the engine turning is still clear. One screw is missing from the inner bezel.

Monsieur Paschkoff seems to have owned several Breguet timepieces, including no. 4822, a ‘Montre Médaillon Simple,’ which, like the current watch, was small in size. Notably, no. 4822 was later repurchased by Breguet and resold to Reverend Hawkins in 1869. This is presumably the same Reverend Hawkins who bought no. 3746, originally sold to Professor Schumacher. In 1843, Paschkoff also acquired Breguet no. 150, a silver hump back clock featuring an eight day grande and petite sonnerie, along with an alarm and double calendar.
