A fine and rare Dutch 22K gold repoussé pair cased watch with mock pendulum, circa 1740. Repoussé “Cephalus & Procris” outer case signed JNP. Gilt full plate movement with pierced fancy steel pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain steel balance with flat balance spring, double-footed silvered cock with cut half-circle for the mock pendulum, inscribed beneath “Un Coup Suffit”, the other half chased with a cupid firing his arrow at a heart on a pedestal, finely pierced and chased backplate furniture.
Gilt metal case and shagreen protective outer case with glazed back. Second case, repoussé, indistinctly signed, very finely chased with a scene of “Cephalus and Procris” within a scroll and shell border and with female bust length figures emblematic of the four seasons, Inner case plain polished.
White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer arcaded minute ring with five-minute Arabic numerals. Rose diamond set hands.
