An English 18K gold minute repeating hunting cased keyless pocket watch with independent centre seconds, circa 1870. A polished case with a hinged gold cuvette. White enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and blued steel hands. Frosted gilt movement, lateral lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with gold temperature and meantime adjustment screws, Breguet balance spring, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a slide in the band. Case, dial and movement.

Robert Roskell Sr. is one of the most famous Liverpool retailers and manufacturers of high-grade all-English-made pocket watch movements in Preston, Lancashire. Robert Roskell was traditionally associated with his partner Peter Litherland, who made the manufacturer famous for the quality of its verge escapements (rack lever escapement). Roskell Sr. often worked in close association with his children and that of his brother John.
