Silver pocket watch by Thomas Taylor

An exceptional English early silver pre-balance spring verge pair cased watch with a date, circa 1665. The watch features a full plate fire gilt movement, pierced and engraved narrow foot balance cock, and a silver regulator with blued steel decoration. The verge escapement has a gut line fusée and Egyptian pillars.
The silvered dial is adorned with black wax-infilled Roman numerals and a pierced and engraved centre of flora and fauna. The outer Arabic date with a gilt rope border and a later single-blued hand.The polished inner case has a cover for winding, while the outer case is made of brass and leather with ornate stud work in the form of fauna and grapes. The watch is signed by the movement, adding to its authenticity and historical value. This watch is a rare find, as few watches from this era have survived in such excellent condition.
