Gold open faced pocket watch by Kurt Ganzmann

A Rare Glashütte 18K gold apprentice watch – in quality 1A – by German Watchmaking School Glashütte, made by student Kurt Ganzmann, circa 1926.
Precision lever movement in the manner of A. Lange & Söhne, quality 1A, signed Kurt Ganzmann Achern 1926, gold lever, gold escape wheel, fine adjusting device, finely engraved balance cock, screwed gold chatons, winding wheels with sunburst decoration. Signed enamel dial with Arabic radial hours, outer minutes track with blue Arabic 24-hour numerals, subsidiary dial for the seconds, and blued steel hands. Engine turned 14K gold case with engraved monogram KG. Dome with number 3325 and signed K. Richter Glashütte.

Kurt Ganzmann, Deutscher Uhrmacher
Kurt Ganzmann apprenticed at the German School of Watchmaking in Glashütte from 1926 to 1927. In 1934, he was elected chairman of the local watchmakers’ assistants’ association. Ganzmann was a member of Saxonia. He carried the name ‘Kilian’.

Karl Paul Richter, Glashütte case maker
Karl Paul Richter was born on August 14, 1884. He married Liddy Elsa, née Steinich (*19 Jan 1887, +9 Jun 1974). He lived in the house at Markt 1 around 1925 (also listed in the 1939 address book).

He worked for A. Lange & Söhne and other Glashütte companies before passing the master craftsman’s examination as a case maker in 1923. In 1925 he was named foreman. Karl Richter became self-employed and ran his workshop in the house at Markt 13. Among other things, Richter made cases for the school clocks of the German School of Watchmaking in Glashütte and the School of Watchmaking in Furtwangen (see also Metzger ).

After Karl Richter died in 1953, Willy Mai used the facility for his precision engineering workshop.
