Open faced wood and ivory cylinder watch by Bronikoff
–
A rare Russian open faced wood and ivory cylinder watch with wood link chain, circa 1860. The watch features a movement with wooden bridges, a wheel train, an escape wheel, an ivory cylinder, a wooden balance wheel, and a blued steel hairspring. The dial is crafted from wood, showcasing a partially exposed train, ivory roundels embellished with Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds, and wooden hands. The burr wood case includes a hinged back with a turned bezel; however, the front bezel is broken and detached. The inside back is signed in Cyrillic Bronikoff in Viatka, and an outer protective wooden case accompanies it. The chain comprises round wooden links, terminating on one side with a ratchet key and hook, and on the other side with a clip.

Movement not functioning. The ivory arm for the ratchet above the winding barrel is cracked and glued. The dial is generally in good condition with a few pins marked by verdigris. The case bezel at the front is broken and detached, but the case back is fine.

Another example, signed in Cyrillic as Bronikoff & Son, can be found in the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva.
