A Swiss pocket watch with jumping centre seconds for the Chinese market, circa 1835.
Unusual in a watch created to Chinese taste, this pocket watch neither shows the marvellous enamel painting Bovet’s timepieces are famous for nor is the movement ostentatiously decorated.
A silver case, white enamel dial, mirror-polished steel bridge movement, blued main plate, keywind, Chinese duplex escapement, standing barrel, brass/steel balance with 3 screwes and 3 blued weights.
