An extremely rare and small French silver and gilt brass octagonal miniature pendant watch, circa 1640
Fire gilt full plate movement, verge escapement, chain and fusee, monometallic balance with two arms (gilded brass), fine florally engraved, pierced and engraved gilded continental Louis XIII cock, column pillars. Fire-gilded brass dial, silver chapter ring with Roman hours, lavishly engraved with entwined leaves and masks, Leda and the swan above the chapter ring, the centre decorated with houses on a lakeshore, blued hand. The case is florally engraved with mystic creatures and foliage, Mary with child on the front and the back with Saint Louis. Movement signed.
