Gold enamel pocket watch set with rose cut diamonds
–
An 18 carat gold enamel watch with diamonds, made by Golay Fils & Stahl in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1900.
This watch has an open faced case, crafted from 18 carat gold and it boasts a stunning blue guilloché enamel back, set with rose cut diamonds, adding an extra touch of elegance to this already luxurious time piece. The signed enamel dial, with its blue numerals in golden cartridges and blued steel hands, is a true work of art. The movement of this watch is equally impressive, featuring a fine lever escapement that is similar to the calibre used in Patek Philippe watches. The Geneva striping finish adds an extra layer of sophistication to the already impressive movement.

David “Auguste” Golay died in Geneva in 1895 and his sons David “Louis” Golay and Joseph “Pierre” Golay took over the company. “Louis” became a jeweller and representative of the A. Golay-Leresche company in Paris at 2 rue de la Paix. The son “Pierre” became a watchmaker and later managed the company in Geneva. The brothers partnered with Edouard Stahl in 1896. Between 1896 and 1906 the company was renamed Golay Fils & Stahl and later Golay Fils & Stahl Successors. In addition to the well-known companies Patek Philippe and Vacheron & Constastin, they also manufactured extremely fine Geneva pocket watches! Their extremely fine gold/enamel objects are highly traded today.
