Gold presentation watch from Juan Peron

A historically interesting presentation watch from Juan Peron, with an extract from the archives and in the original box, made by Vacheron & Constantin in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1949. The open faced case of this timepiece is crafted from 18 carat gold and has an inscription on the back lid Al buen amigo Adhemar de Barros, un Recuerdo del general Juan Peron Grl, 17.7.1951. The two colour dial has baton hours, a Roman 12, 9, 6 and 3, inner minute divisions, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and pink gold hands. The numbered movement has a lever escapement, 17 jewels and temperature adjustment. The watch comes with a matching pink gold watch chain. The dial, case, movement and box are signed.

The extract from the archives confirms the originality of the watch and the year of manufacture in 1949. The dedication on the case is signed with the signature of Juan Peron, President of Argentina and was a gift to his friend Adhemar de Barros.

Adhemar Pereira de Barros, born on 22 April 1901 and died on 12 March 1969, was mayor of São Paulo and twice elected governor of São Paulo (1947-1951 and 1963-1966).
