An early grande & petite sonnerie repeating pocket watch made in Switzerland, circa 1820. The numbered, open faced case of this watch is crafted from 18 carat pink gold and has engine turned decoration on the back, bezels and band. The white enamel dial has Arabic hour numerals, an outer minute track and steel Breguet hands. The highly complicated movement has an unusual anker escapement repeating the hours and quarter hours as well as grande and petite sonnerie quarter hour self strike with the possibility of turning it off.
