Gold quarter repeating verge
–
A fine and very rare Swiss 18K gold quarter repeating pocket watch with concealed erotic automaton, circa 1820. A polished case with a reeded band, bezel and border. Gilt metal cuvette hinged to the movement ring and with a central small concealed spring-loaded cover opening by depressing a pin at the edge to reveal a multicoloured engraved gold gentleman and a lady in an amorous upright position, animated by the action of the repeating mechanism. White enamel dial, Breguet numerals, outer minute track, winding aperture at 2 o’clock and blued steel Breguet hands. A frosted gilt full-plate movement with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance with flat balance spring, continental cock, silver regulation dial, repeating on gongs activated by depressing the pendant.
