Gold open faced repeating watch
–
A fine Swiss 18 carat yellow gold quarter repeating pocket watch, made for Davau in Paris, circa 1830. This watch features a hand wound mechanical movement with a lever escapement and a quarter repeater mechanism striking on gongs with two hammers. The white enamel dial displays black painted Roman numerals, a black railway minute track with Arabic five minute numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and gilt pear shaped hands. The 18 carat gold case features a hinged back, exquisitely engraved with an elaborate floral and foliate motif surrounding a central cartouche with the letter C in a stylised script. The inner case is signed Davau Boulevard Poissonnière 32, Paris and numbered. Accompanied by its original 18 carat yellow gold watch chain with large, decorative links.
