Gold open faced keyless lever watch
–
A fine and rare Swiss 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch made by Patek Philippe & Co in Geneva for the prominent retailer Charles Grottendieck in Brussels, circa 1900. This timepiece features a high quality mechanical crown winding movement with a lever escapement. It is beautifully finished, with separate bridges, a micrometric regulator, and a compensated balance wheel, and is signed and numbered. The white enamel dial shows black Arabic numerals for the hours, an outer railway minute track, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and gold Breguet style hands. The watch is housed in an 18 carat solid yellow gold case, featuring a polished exterior and a gold inner cuvette engraved with Charles Grottendieck Bruxelles Horloger de l’Empereur and Chronometre Patek Philippe & Cie Genève. It is completed by a fluted winding crown and a sturdy round suspension bow.
