Gold key wind open faced pocket watch
–
A fine and decorative Swiss 18 carat yellow gold open faced key wind pocket watch set with half pearls, early 19th century. This watch features a keywind mechanical movement with a cylinder escapement, a three arm spiral balance, a suspended barrel, and an advance/delay adjustment ratchet. The gilt dial with a guilloché centre displays Roman numerals for the hours, individually set with tiny half pearls; an outer minute track also set with half pearls; a square winding aperture at two o’clock; and cathedral hands. The round 18 carat yellow gold case is of exceptional decorative quality throughout. The bezel is set with three rows of half pearls in a stylised arrangement, while the case back presents an elaborate composition of large, medium, and small half-pearls alternating in a sunburst pattern, radiating outward from the centre in a crossing order that mirrors the set bezel. The interior of the case bears the MB hallmark.
