An extremely rare and important silver Swiss pre balance spring astronomical coach watch with hour self strike and alarm, circa 1655. Frosted, gilt full plate movement, keywind, chain/fusee, 2 florally engraved and pierced barrels for alarm and striking train, baluster shaped movement pillars, florally engraved locking plate for strike mechanism, applied blued iron click work for spring preload, 2 hammers, verge escapement with large ring balance, fine florally engraved, pierced silver balance cock. Silver firegilt dial, engraved, concentric indication from the outer to the inner: month indication, zodiac with beginning date, date indication, inlaid radial Roman numerals, moon age indication, aspects disc with hour hand, moon phase and central alarm hand. Silver case, finely engraved and florally pierced, bell, large lateral hinge.
