White gold open faced keyless digital lever watch by Breguet
–
A very rare, fine, and slim Swiss white gold, open faced, keyless lever jumphour watch with a digital display and perpetual calendar, circa 1927. Movement signed and numbered Breguet 1116, with 18 damascened bridges, a lever escapement, jewelled to the centre, and a bimetallic compensation balance. It features a silvered dial with a vertical satin finish, a rectangular triple aperture for the day, month, and date indications in French, a tapered aperture for jumping hours, and a fanform aperture above for the rotating minute disc, signed and numbered Breguet 1116. The case is made of 18 carat white gold, with a polished flat back, polished chamfered bezels, a white gold pendant and bow, and a snap on back signed and numbered B 1116, complete with Swiss hallmarks and Paris control marks introduced in 1838. It is accompanied by a Breguet certificate dated 27 January 2020 and sold to Monsieur Cortlandt Bishop, New York, on 7 March 1927 for 24,000 francs.

The movement is running, but there is occasional slippage when the hours transition between 4 and 9 o’clock. At times, manually adjusting the time causes two hours to change simultaneously. The day and date adjust correctly at midnight, and the manual adjustment pusher beneath the bezel advances all calendar functions as intended. The dial shows some tarnishing and staining. The case is in repolished condition.

Signed: Breguet 1116
