Enamelled gold watch for the Ottoman Empire

An exquisite, very rare gold and enamel watch made for the Ottoman Empire in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1820. This pocket watch has an open faced case which is crafted from 18 carat gold and has a curved rim with 12 segments, both sides blue and white enamelled and decorated with golden ornaments. The exquisite off center dial has black Roman hour numerals on an engine turned chapter ring, outer minute divisions, enamel painting and steel hands. The very fine and unusual Lépine caliber has a cylinder escapement.
The movement is signed.

Moulinié à Genève is proven to be founded around 1795 by Jacques-Dauphin Moulinié. Jacques-Dauphin Moulinié and Jean-François Bautte registered a company in 1796, which has existed since August 1, 1793, with a 9 year contract. On October 1st 1804 a new company, Moulinié, Bautte & Co., was established for four years with the addition of Jean-Gabriel Moynier, this time not only as a watch case manufacturer but for the watch and jewellery trade. From 1808 to 1821, when Moulinié retired, the firm was known as Moulinié, Bautte & Moynier. The sons Jean-François Moulinié and Jacques-Dauphin Moulinié junior continued to work as Moulinié Frères & Cie.
