Gunmetal keyless pocket watch

A very fine and rare Swiss, gunmetal, a keyless pocket watch with chronograph and unusual 24-hour dial, circa 1895. Accompanied by the Extract from the Archives. A polished bassine, gold crown, bow and locking bolt for the chronograph. Hinged gun metal cuvette. White enamel dial with radial Roman numerals intersected by red-painted 24-hour numerals within gold-painted rectangles, outer minute track and concentric fifths of second divisions, subsidiary seconds. Blued steel spade hands.
Rhodium-plated movement, Geneva striping decoration, 21 jewels, wolf’s tooth winding, straight-line moustache lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with blued steel Breguet balance spring, Wilmot’s patented micrometric cam regulator. Dial, cuvette and movement signed.

The dial of this watch is an unusual example of its type. The Arabic 13-24 have been integrated into the Roman I-XII, as opposed to the more usual layout in which the 13-24 are placed above or below the Roman numerals.
