Gold open faced lever with split-seconds chronograph

A very fine and rare Swiss, keyless, open faced, five-minute repeating, 18K yellow gold pocket watch, circa 1887. With a split-seconds chronograph. Accompanied by the Extract from the Archives. Made by Patek Philippe & Cie, Genève, No. 80124, retailed and cased by Tiffany & Co., New York. Sold on May 30th, 1888.

A solid, polished case with a rectangular pusher on the band for the split-seconds function, a locking bolt at 11 o’clock, and concealed hinges. Hinged gold cuvette. White enamel dial with painted Breguet numerals, outer minute and 1/5 seconds divisions with red Arabic 5-minute/seconds markers. Blued steel spade hands. A nickel-silver movement, Geneva striping decoration, 23 jewels, straight-line counterpoised lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a slide on the band. Dial, case and movement signed Tiffany & Co.
